Check out what I've been listening in getting things done!
I’m sure like me, you’ve often wondered; is there such a thing as increasing your productivity. Is it a myth or does it actually work?
Productivity as you know is used nowadays in both manufacturing and personal growth to measure a person or system’s efficiency. It’s now widely used to measure the efficiency of a person’s life goals and ambitions.
Maybe you’ve found yourself in quarantine striving to achieve self-development; whether that’s sticking to a fitness program, writing everyday in your journal or finishing off a chapter from a book that you started reading, but you find yourself lingering in bed in need of motivation to kick start your day.
I’d like to share with you my favourite podcast to date that I’ve found useful when I need inspiration to get off the sofa and start doing something productive with your time.
It's also helped me understand the law and nature of productivity and hopefully can give you the inspiration to start today and implement it in your daily routine.
Principals of Productivity - Not Overthinking by Ali & Taimur
An hour long but worth a listen!
In this podcast, you learn useful insights on productivity being a progress of time which results in useful output.
For instance; think of productivity as a pilot, plane and an engineer. What you do should consist of 80% energy in executing your plans, 10% spent planning and preparation and 5% on (engineering) gearing on increasing the output of your productivity.
This means that rather than spending a whole day planning how many pages you'll write for an essay or article, why not plan out the core objectives and begin writing once you put them down on paper.
I often find this useful as it prevents the motivation brick wall that most of us find ourselves, due to feeling overwhelmed by the amount of work that we have to do.
Here are useful tips I found that are helping me to become more efficient every day;
UNDERSTAND THE 3 MYTHS OF PRODUCTIVITY
1. Time – Do you feel like time moves so much quicker on some days than others?
One thing I found useful to tracking my time writing down a schedule to see where I spend the most time. I could find that one day, I spent hours busy being busy but not actually creating.
There are great tools on most mobile phones that allow you to see what apps you spend most of your time.
Take some time out this week to check and you'll be amazed at how you went about being on YouTube for 3hrs in a day!
By understanding that it's not the lack of time affecting your productivity, you'll begin to change your mindset and begin to set intentional schedules to achieve your goals.
2. Motivation – the myth that inspiration leads to action doesn’t really work for most of us. Majority of the time you need to start pursuing your dreams rather than waiting to be inspired to start working on your dreams.
I agree that being inspired is an important aspect of us chasing our dreams, but don't stop there and never actually start.
Remember; the person you admire was also a beginner at some stage in their life.
"We need motivation for things that require a short- term pain for long term gain" – Ali
So, whether that involves getting up early, going for a run, starting a book club or just organise your room; start working on it today and you’ll see the results of your hard work.
3. Multi-tasking - the myth that working on too many tasks at one time is being productive.
I tried doing this and I found that the quality of my work would be poor and rushed. So rather than focusing trying to pursue all of your important goals at once, set your attention on one task at the time.
A useful tip is pick 3 things you want to get done this week and stick to them. Nothing less, nothing more.
In essence, find moments in your day where you can find clarity to execute your plans or goals and never forget add the fun!

BONUS TIP
The Power of Productive Procrastination - The idea that if you can make your downtime useful, it can produce an outcome that you’re looking to achieve.
Whenever I feel overwhelmed with researching on my next blog, I choose to spend that 1hr learning the piano or watching videos on investments to give me a break from what I’m doing.
Here a few tips on how you make procastination work for you;
Get on a bike for a ride around your neighbourhood or town.
Step away from your screen and talk to a loved one or friend. (I'll be doing that after finishing this off).
Call a friend and find out how they're coping during lockdown.
Pick up that rusty guitar and begin playing again.
Start using your dusty brushes to paint a beautiful image
AND FINALLY ENJOY EVERY MOMENT X
