3 TIPS TO ENJOYING EVERYDAY LIFE
Hey Climber,
Looking to implement a few practices in my daily routine to live a more meaningful &
purpose filled life?
This concept of today is your day sparked from sermons and podcasts by Joyce Meyer, a well-known Christian author and speaker who has impacted the lives of many including myself.
I wanted to share a few tips that I've found valuable when it comes to owning your day, time and the activities that you've set out to achieve.
1. BE PRESENT
Most of us (including myself) get caught up in a “when I get there world.” When I find that perfect job, cut x amount of weight or find that special person then I’ll be happy.
Being present gives us the opportunity to re-evaluate lost passions and dreams and visualize if they’re still worth pursuing. It allows us to rediscover hidden dreams and actually think of ways to pursue them.
One of the things I loved to do while working in Hong Kong during my internship program, was walk by the Victoria harbour in Sheung Wan (one I would definitely recommend if you ever decide to travel there). #travel #internship
During this time, I would self reflect on all the things I’ve accomplished, what’s brought me here this far and what’s driving my next move.
To be honest, this was more than self-reflection, and helped to process whether this is where I’d like to be right now.
I now find myself in 2020, sitting in a coffee shop thinking on the next steps in my career, where I'd like to be and the opportunities available right now... and Oh don’t we all find ourselves in that space once in a while?
2. PRACTICE LISTENING SKILLS
“I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I’m going to learn, I must do it by listening.” - Larry King.
We get so consumed with social media, that we sometimes forget to take the time to really check in with ourselves and the people around us that we love and cherish. Listening plays a big part in building friendships, negotiations and even partnerships.
If you struggle with listening and would like to know ways of how to improve them; a few suggestions I gained whilst travelling and in my current work place has helped to create new and long-lasting relationships.
Practice questions like “How do you feel today?”"Tell me more about your trip?" and during conversations with a colleague or friend try to give physical acknowledgements; i.e nod, smile and eye contact.
On the flip side, if you love music like I do, focus on listening to the instruments playing in your favourite song on #Spotify. You'll be amazed by how much bass and keys will come popping into your ear once you do.
When you sit down with a friend or loved one at dinner or over lunch break, put away distractions and listen without pretence and see the results unfold.
As Karl A. Menniger, American psychiatriststated stated, "Listening is a magnetic and strange thing, a creative force. The friends who listen to us are the ones we move toward."
3. GET ACTIVE
Do you enjoy hiking, running, dance or swimming?
Whatever it is that sparks joy after a long day at work or before, do it with passion and enthusiasm.
My personal favourites are hiking and walking along spectacular views when I travel to various cities. Studies have shown that this improves mental health and improves productivity in our lives.
Currently, I’m enjoying gym classes that incorporate body balance, strength as well as cardio. #fitness #pilates
Committing to be active can boost morale and self confidence in the body that you've been gifted with.
Find something you love and do it as often as you can!
Embrace each step day by day and enjoy it. Remember this; doing what you love will in turn help you to focus on the important things, and stop you from comparing and competing with others.
